How might we ensure the future of space exploration in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) by invigorating the general public’s interest?
Executive Summary
In the spring of 2021, the International Space Station partnered with the Parsons School of Design to explore novel and imaginative ways to measure the immeasurable—a theme associated with exploring the vastness and opportunity of space. Through this consultative engagement, Parsons conducted a comprehensive analysis of the overall aerospace industry, messaging and positioning, and branding to hone an initial set of insights and recommendations for the International Space Station.
Outcomes and Insights
The Space Station has the opportunity to tell the human story and inspire wonder so its audience sees themselves and their aspirations in the organization. By adopting principles of engagement, the Space Station can empower its audience to act on their curiosity, making things personal and actionable.

How might we harness the multicultural power of 2nd generation millennials to create community spaces where belonging thrives?
Executive Summary
Our team focused its efforts on the idea of Designing Belonging. We believe belonging exists on a spectrum, not a binary, that allows for a nuanced experience. Our research journey led us to focus on the 2nd generation Millennial experience. This is an audience of people aged 25-40 with immigrant parents. They haven’t been given a roadmap for what life looks like and are tasked with creating a new culture for themselves.
We’re taking a strategic approach to creating a sense of belonging by designing community-based spaces through the lens of 2nd generation Millennials - a group whose upbringing taught them how to navigate intentional belonging.
Outcomes and Insights
Our work led us to an unexpected, but profound conclusion: designing from the multicultural power of 2nd generation Millennial would lead to interventions with depth and an opportunity for new solutions that are uniquely built to bridge and protect our collective future. Recognizing how important genuine connection is to the wellbeing of our communities, belonging will be the key to our collective survival as individuals within physical and digital community ecosystems of the 21st century.

Executive Summary
We designed a multi-pronged strategic plan that not only centers belonging as a vehicle for intercultural solidarity, but also enables lasting organizational and system change. At the center of the ecosystem sits the In Common project.
he manifesto proclaims the universal tenets of belonging, the field guide is a practical tool for initiatives, and the studio activates design interventions.
The network unites a global connection hub built on the collective work of organizations and individuals from around the globe who are eager to share resources and advance the conversation around cultural solidarity, belonging and agency.
Outcomes and Insights
We started our journey with the goal of understanding belonging. We knew it as an intangible experience and feeling but our endeavor revealed what we knew all along: belonging is also a strategic tool that can take on many forms, be analyzed, codified, and most importantly, serve as a diagnostic launching pad that drives change.
In CommonTM was created from a shared passion for community and a vision to shape a world where intercultural solidarity thrives.
